Romania’s historic region of Transylvania is known for its beautiful scenery, medieval towns and fascinating legends. The region is located in the central part of the country and is bordered on the East and South by the dramatic Carpathian mountains. Probably the most famous of Transylvania’s wonders is Bran Castle, otherwise known as Dracula’s Castle. The Carpathian Mountains form a circle around the region of Transylvania in central Romania, and are home to one of the largest undisturbed forests in Europe. The Carpathian’s are rich in biodiversity, with hundreds of species of flora and fauna, including 60% of the population of European Brown Bears. These mountains also boast incredible natural rock formations, dramatic cliffs, and plenty of hiking trails, making them a perfect destination for outdoor enthusiasts. Bran Castle

Bran Castle

The Bran Castle is a medieval fortress on the Transylvanian border, dating back to the 13th century. Situated on the edge of Bran Gorge, it was the inspiration behind Dracula’s Castle in Bram Stoker’s classic novel. Today, the castle is open to the public and houses a display of art and furniture collected by Queen Marie during the fortress’s time as a royal residence between 1920 and 1948. On our holidays to Romania including Bran Castle, we’ll have the chance to tour this awe-inspiring fortress and learn about its rich history.

Sighisoara

Sighisoara

Sighisoara is a beautifully preserved medieval town set in the rolling countryside of Transylvania. The city walls encircle cobbled streets lined with 16th century burghers’ houses and churches. The well-preserved medieval citadel dominates the New Town from its rocky massif, where the slopes support a jumble of ancient leaning houses. The citadel is on the UNESCO World Heritage list.

What is included in my holiday?

Travel Department holidays include flights, transfers and hotel accommodation on bed and breakfast, half board or full board basis, and excursions as specified.

All items that are included are clearly stated in our documentation. Add-ons such as insurance, bags and single room supplements are mentioned separately. In some cases you may have to pay a local departure tax or local transport cost. This will be detailed in your documentation and our local guides will assist you with these. Tipping is not included in your holiday price and information regarding tipping will also be included with your travel documents.
